Concept
What is a GTM OS?
A GTM OS is the internal platform, built and run as a product, through which an AI-native go-to-market function operates: its workflows, automations and agents live in one governed system, so alignment between sales, marketing and customer success is architectural rather than orchestrated.
Also called GTM operating system, Go-to-market operating system.
At Backbase, the GTM OS grew out of the Shadow CMO organization. It is hosted in a “landing zone”: a governed environment where workflows, automations and agents are deployed in a way that is compliant, secure and auditable. Without a landing zone, Tim argues, you can’t make real progress.
What it replaces
Its core capability, the Signal Engine, went live at the end of Q3 2025 and replaced the company’s ABM platform, saving more than $100,000 in licensing. Since then the GTM OS has absorbed the integration platform and reporting stack and moved the team off Salesforce as a workspace. The function is now “mostly headless”.
What changes for the team
Workflows live in the system rather than in spreadsheets each region builds for itself. Teams regroup around outcomes instead of crafts, and marketers become all-round operators who run a motion end to end. In ABM, a single manager now runs a 1:1 motion that used to take a whole team.
- Account coverage per ABM marketer up roughly 10x.
- A weeks-long, multi-function prep cycle turned into a 30-minute agentic workload.
- Reporting and interpretation for quarterly board and business reviews made instant.
